modern art is arguably the most stupid thing ever. People can do anything nowadays, make up a meaning for it and call it 'art'. basically it sucks. lets preserve animals and suspend them in liquid. yes that is good art. lets get our unmade bed with stains on and call it art. it sucks it sucks it sucks. the tate modern is the satanic outlay for all this rubbish. we can call a glass of water a tree. we can get solid block of colour and call it art. I could make that and im no roy lichtenstein. i saw some art work that was horse crap with hair on. THATS NOT ART SORT IT OUT

your opinions would be appreciated

I agree that a lot of what is called art nowadays is rubbish but that doesn't mean that everything being done now is bad.I''ve been living in Brazil for the past three years so I haven''t been to the Tate modern. But I went to some interesting exhibitions in Boston last year and saw a very good installation at the museum of modern art in Paris the year before. There are good things out there, you might just have to look beyond the Tate modern.

The tate modern is fab!
In previous centuries, only those who could afford to commission art decided what art was, now we all can. If you dont like the 'art' you see, you have the right to say its not art; what you do not have, is the right to decide for everyone else what qualifies as art. Voice your oppinion but dont enforce it as a law!
Maybe I should re-phrase my initial statement- In my oppion the tate mdoern is fab!

I think u are an extremely typical English wanker!..I make this assumption on the grounds that you are an uncultured and noneducated son of a bich.
The world of art is not restriced to one building on the banks of the river Thames; it is to be found everywhere in the world including the most democraticaly deprived nations.
My guess is that you are a young person, probably still at school and that is why u are not aware of the above. I am sick of listening to people whine on about the art u have mentioned, if you do not like it there is plenty of other places to look....... oh but hang on, your English and you didn't know that did you? I can't believe i have just wasted my time addressing your shity issue....now i feel like a twat!!! At least i'll know where to find you: at the fuking tate modern!!!

Brilliant!

I must admit that I am english. Nevertheless, I whole heartedly agree with what you are saying tamlan.

My only concern with the Tate Modern is that it may too easily be misunderstood as a venue dedicated to modern art, and mainly by people who do not know what modern art is. This is simply down to the name of the gallery though. Hirst and Emin do not, under any description, fit modernism and thus are not accurate examples of work in a gallery called 'modern'.
