I purchased a painting at auction in Australia by a British artist (supposedly) called Leslie Lewis who was listed in the catalogue as being well represented in European galleries. The signature on the painting is simply L.L. I have not been able to identify this artist despite exhaustive internet searches. I would describe the painting as a genre piece featuring a woman in possibly turn of 20th century dress (or slightly later) selling flowers. She is holding an oriental parasol which frames a rather beautiful face with downward gaze. The painting alludes to the fashion for Japonism which can be seen in the work of various 'impressionist' artists.
Does anyone know of this artist?
