Art Teachers - Those who can...teach

I'm on a search for art teachers making art, their own art, and I'm not sure if I'm in the right place or not. I'm looking to do some email interviews and possibly get some snapshots of work.

A little background on my part will probably help - in a nut shell, I'm an art education graduate student working on my thesis project at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. I'm building a small virtual community for art educators which will hopefully inspire them into doing their own art work. Through interviews, an email discussion list, and excellent creative resources, I'm hoping to admonish the statement - Those who can't...teach.

The site will eventually live at www.cutxpaste.net when I am finished building it.

Thank you for your time
Karalee

karalee, contact my art teacher ted barnes at barnes@lacollege.edu, and my art history teacher (a more accomplished artist, but don't tell ted i said that) you can probably reach via mail@lemieuxgalleries.com. her name is leslie elliottsmith.
good luck...also you might want to skim the pages for a poster who goes by "frida", she is quite in tune with you.

Ha, C, I knew it ! Despite the heated arguments you wind up being a part of sometimes, you´re actually a nice guy.

My older son is a composer and working musician. He's also teaching Composition and arrangement for multi-media to university music students aiming for their B.A. He has 400 students in one class. Whilst he loves composing, playing and writing, he is finding great joy and satisfaction in passing on what he has learned and is still learning. Teaching passes on the knowledge. I know this is about visual and graphic arts, but I think teachers in whatever sphere are subject to underestimation. Without them, how can the skills survive?

Hi Karalee
I've been teaching art and art history here in the UK since 1991 but from Boston originally (Museum School grad, but knew lots of people at MassArt). If you want to get in touch I'm happy to help with your project. Good luck.

Karalee,

Do you have room for self-taught artists? One who learned methods from masters.

I'd suggest Steve Whitehead, who teaches at the University of Hull in Britain. He is a photorealist painter, who is extremely well respected and liked by his students.

Here is a link that might be useful: Steve Whitehead's homepage

I would just like to suggest that many, many art teachers who teach in a public school system, raise a family and are married, do not have time or space at home to do their own art!
After a 40 year span of teaching (12 years substitute teaching after retirement) and raising a family, I have finally begun painting. Now I am painting for myself, not as an example for a lesson.
Maybe it is for the best; I do not have to earn money or praise for my work. In this way, I am absolutely free to paint as I wish, finally.
This is a precious gift.

Karalee,
I finally accessed your site and am really impressed. I plan to take the challenge of one of the ideas for doing some art work. This is a really interesting site.
Lina.
