What?! I usually frame my paintings with spruce laths, cheap and easy to work with. That's pretty subjective to me. Doubt that the one who uses the frames you mention ever experienced a splinter in the finger first hand.

I suggest using gallery wrapped canvas then you need buy no frames at all. Just go ahead and paint the picture and paint the sides of the canvas, too. Why make life difficult? Enjoy the journey.
