Fixative for drawings

| I am looking for something that will fix my sketches, that I create in pencil.
I have seen a fixative in an art shop, that is in a spray can, and rather expensive....on reading the directions...it was a bit scarey with lots of chemicals, and flamable, not something I want to bring into my home.
I wonder if there is a more natural product that I could use ?
Ideas gratefully accepted.

| Not that I know of. I take my drawings and pastels outside and spray them, you're right about the chemicals, they're quite nasty. I use the Nuart pressure pack spray but only when I have to. |

| Thanks Julie for your input I think I will just have to buy the fixative, it certainly seems like a good product. |

| You can use hairspray instead of fixative. Try and find one without scent though! Obviously, if you want long-life guarantees and no yellowing etc, you're better off with a product designed for the purpose. I use hairspray for sketches that aren't precious, but which I want to keep for later reference, e.g. life drawings that will be turned into paintings. |
