I have been eagerly awaiting this to open. It was supposed to come her today but did not. Does anyone know if it has been delayed? Is it playing where you are?

RE: Miss Potter?

Looks like it may only be in certain cities so far....

Here's a link from Landmark Theaters that shows what cities are playing it at their theaters. Not sure if other theater groups are playing it yet.

We get some good movies here rather early...but there is so much new/good stuff out now that it may be while before we get Miss Potter. That may be the problem a lot of places.

Here is a link that might be useful: Miss Potter - Landmark

Carla thanks for the link-here is another movie we won't get here, so I will have to wait til it comes out for rent.
I was surprised that it is only 1 hr and 32 min.......seems hardly worth bothering about-I wonder why it isn't longer....?

Thanks for the info. I can always hope. I just have learned that there is also a new biography coming out soon on Beatrix Potter.

RE: Miss Potter?*

Finally, it appears this will open in my area soon. It was promised in January, and now it is almost March. Of course, in the meantime, we had dozens of senseless, violent, slasher-type fims come and go, which would only appeal to a certain genre of youth....

Saw it yesterday. Loved it. Some flaws but will see it again before it leaves. Luscious scenery.

New bio is by Linda Lear.

I can't believe that I am STILL waiting for this to open where I live. Looks like I will have to wait for the video to come out....

RE: Miss Potter? FINALLY!

At last, the DVD came out and I rented it and loved this. Gorgeous scenery and romantic story with an interesting ending. How repressive and snobbish her Victorian parents were!

It occurred to me that even had not her fiance died, he might have later been killed in WW I, given the date of the film. I was interested in what she did in the end, towards saving the lovely old farms that were threatened with development. Very timely theme, even in today's America. I wonder how many were actually saved and can be seen, today. I've not visited that part of England.

Has anyone read the biography of Beatrix P. that the film was taken from?

I thought both Emily Watson andd Renee Z. were remarkable in their roles, particularly since Renee is American....

Mary I moved it to the top of my Queue, but won't get it til next month as I have used up my quota for June.
I am looking forward to it.

Also watched it over the weekend. Nice little movie, very heart-warming. Potter truly was ahead of her times.

Kudos once again to Zellweger who is a master of dialects! The special features also showed RZ in complete (vocal) character even off-camera!

I thought this was a thoroughly enjoyable movie, especially given that I am not much of a fan of her books. I have never cared for animal characters, even as a child, once I outgrew being read to at bedtime by my father.

I saw the film a number of months back and loved it. As has been said the scenery was incredible. I commend the actors, as the roles weren't extra - ordinary, but more day-to-day people. I loved Emily Watson and almost feel that she should have been Potter, although Zellweger did do an excellent job.

Just watched this one again, and liked it even better the second time. I agree, Watson was excellent.

RE: Miss Potter?

After I saw this one I remember saying that it would have been much better with someone other than Zellweger playing Beatrix-she really annoyed me in this one-although I have enjoyed her in other movies.

Finally rented this from Netflix, enjoyed it much. I'm glad I didn't read this thread before watching it. Please put a *** SPOILER *** when revealing the ending in your discussions.

How unfair, the stiff victorian society of that time caused her so much grief. It's no wonder Beatrix escaped into her drawings and stories.

Keep the kleenex handy.

"Of course, in the meantime, we had dozens of senseless, violent, slasher-type films come and go, which would only appeal to a certain genre of youth...."

Is it just me or is this out of control? I go to the video rental store each week and I am blown away by how many low budget horror flicks are out there. I happen to really enjoy this genre when done well, but the vast majority of
these rentals are just garbage.

What really surprises me is that there are not more young directors interested in doing mystery and suspense as well as good old drama. You can do these films much more impressively because of the lower required budget to make them but so few seem inspired to take this path. It's gotten to the point where if a catchy cover within the horror genre "appears" impressive, I immediately check the label. It's really sad to see labels like Lion's Gate & Think releasing crap and making it "appear" impressive.

Thanks for the inspiration in thought Woodnymph.
