Really good actors in very small parts

I was watching Pelican Brief for the umpteenth time and was amazed at how small William Atherton's part was in it. He couldn't have had more than 50 words and maybe three or four minutes of screen time. To me he usually makes a movie worth watching.

Well, I don't know if some of you remember John McIntire and Jeannette Nolan from the old Western movies but I sure do. Although they never had the leading roles, their character performances were always memorable. He always portrayed a likeable old wise, no-nonsense grandad of a guy and she always did the loving, materning grandmother.

I remember and I think Jeanette Nolan played the mother in the TV Series "The Real McCoys" And John was a wagon master on "Wagon Train" (I think) They were great character and bit players later on.

James Broadbent in "Vera Drake". He is the presiding judge at the end of the movie. Screen time, maybe 5 minutes. If you aren't looking for him, you may miss him altogether.
