Another Pride & Prejudice!

| There was a short article in the local paper this a.m. that said there is to be yet again-another version of P & P!
As a fan of the A&E TV program MI-5 it was interesting to read that the actor who was a lead on that show - and has left the show, Mathew MacFadyen has just finished filming the new version which also "stars" Keira Knightly.
As much as I enjoyed the role he played in MI-5 I don't see him as Mr Darcy, if that is indeed the role he will be playing.
I am assuming that Keira will be playing Elizabeth Bennett?
Has anyone heard any more about this?
Since Keira is in it I am assuming it will be a movie and not a TV version?

I hope they don't modernize this one. To me nothing can match the Elizabeth Garvie - David Rintoul version.

Minnie I never saw that version, so can't compare it to the Colin Firth one. I thought Firth was a great Darcy. Pat

Firth was ok I guess but the actress who played Elizabeth was too "soupy" for me. I didn't like the adaptation used on that one either.

Soupy? Minnie, please describe "soupiness" for me. :-) I agree that the BBC version is a more faithful adaptation than the 1995 A&E version. Where the BBC version suffers most is in production values; it was obviously shot on a small budget. The A&E is quite sumptuous, and I can imagine a full-blown to-be-shown-in-theatres film to be even more so. As for the actors: Elizabeth Garvie was much better than Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth Bennet, I think, although I like Ehle well enough. David Rintoul played Darcy more properly, I think -- Darcy was very stiff and dignified in the book -- and Rintoul captured that very well, perhaps better than Firth. But it's hard for me to prefer Rintoul as Darcy over Firth's portrayal -- and it's not all Firth's handsomeness either. I think I just get the feeling better with Firth's Darcy that there is something beneath all that repression. I don't know anything about the actor playing Darcy in this upcoming version. But Keira Knightley...since I saw her miscast as Larissa in the remake (or made-for-TV version) of "Doctor Zhivago" I haven't liked her. Oh, I guess she was all right in "Pirates of the Caribbean," but practically any actress could have done that part. And if the screenwriters/directors start messing with and adding to the novel's plot -- like some other screenwriters/directors have done with other classics lately (e.g., Mansfield Park and Vanity Fair) -- oh, jeez, I hope that's a short-lived trend!

I can't remember the name of the actress who played with Colin. (I hope I have the right one) I guess I should have said too sweet or saccharin sweet. Always smiling and just not right for the part in my opinion.
