The SAG Awards were on tonight and here are the winners:
Best Actor - Jamie Foxx
Best Actress - Hilary Swank
Best Supporting Actor - Morgan Freeman
Best Supporting Actress - Cate Blanchett (yeaa!)
Best Ensemble - Sideways
You can usually use these to predict the Oscar winners since most of the same people vote.
Though I gotta disagree with you about using it to predict the Oscar winners (although I do think Foxx and Swank are shoo-ins)! The nominees aren't even the same on both lists, and historically using the SAG's list of winners is really no better than using the Golden Globes, Critics Choice or almost any other award group.
If I understand right the SAG's are all actors or anyone with an actor's card--those who do commercials, etc... and is like 120,000 strong. Whereas the Academy is mainly made up of the cream of the crop, and previous award winners and is only about 5600 strong.
I still think a lot of the awards are up for grabs and, I for one, will be truly surprised at who wins best picture. It seems like everyone is predicting a different movie to win.
I tuned in in time to watch the James Garner tribute. He has always been one of my favorites. Didn't watch anything after that. I see they gave Jerry Orbach an award.
The SAG Awards add suspense leading to the coming Oscars.
Am going to "Hotel Rwanda" today to help clear up (for me) Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Supporting Actress. Don Cheadle and Sophie Okonedo, respectively.
