Hear My Song Waking Ned Devine The Commitments The Snapper The Playboys (I especially love the part about the itinerant theatre troupe putting on "Gone with the Wind;" Milo O'Shea is a gem) Widows' Peak Not the right season, perhaps, but I always have to mention "The Dead." And "Cal" and "December Bride" and "Ryan's Daughter." |

| I forgot to mention "Agnes Browne," the adaptation of Brendan O'Carroll's The Mammy. It's not as good as the book but it's quite good unto itself. |

| Some of the movies mentioned like Gangs of New York are violent and I don't care to watch them, of course there is a lot of violence in Ireland's history. A quiet little movie that I enjoyed was Dancing at the Lughnasa. Pat |

| I liked Dancing at the Lughansa and if that is to your taste then let me again recommend "The Dead" if you haven't already seen it. Anjelica Huston is terrific. |

| If you'd like a modern day Irish American film though, "State of Grace" is dynamite. Even ends with a great St. Paddy's day parade scene. |

The Magdalen Sisters Odd Man Out I think it came out in the US under a different name, with James Mason The TV series Father Ted. Very funny, did you see it in the US? I have a friend from County Clare where the outdoor scenes were shot. The local priests forbade the people to sign up as 'extras'; nonetheless the film co. was swamped with hopefuls. Circle of Friends from the Maeve Binchy book. |
