| Barefoot in the Park Clairabelle, when I saw your post, it freaked me out a little, because that's what I thought of on the previous game when the clue was "child." I typed it in, then erased it and put "AI" -- anyway, I think that's an interesting coincidence. Rose |

| It's not an official rule but just something to consider about the direction the game's been heading lately. I've always felt first clues like "father" or "house" are vague to the point of pointlessness. Without at least an adjective for one of those, you might as well say "clue number 1: a movie." New York City is the most frequent city American films are set in. If your movie was "The Producers" for example, you might say something like "NYC theatre" which I think would narrow the field enough for people to at least be in the ballpark. I've always felt a first clue should still be detailed or specific enough to that particular film that someone who'd seen it and paid attention could figure it out without just taking a shot in the dark (this probably goes back to the way it was originally played when there were only 3 clues given total, which is how I still play when giving clues). In other words, the game becomes about lucky guessing instead of educated guessing. That said I'll aim my shotgun into the infinite blackness of Woody Allen like territory and say: "When Harry Met Sally" |

Okay, I take your point. I was pretty much trying to figure out the pattern just from what I had seen here. I thought it was a 5 clue max with the first being generic. I can't seem to find that sweet spot between giving it away and providing no help at all, I will do my best and quit if it isn't adequate. Clues: New York Altoona |
RE: Clue Game #45 - this game has more than 9 lives!
| | |
| well, had to look this one up because I have no idea what 'Altoona' means, except in the sense of ALL-TUNA!! lol Diamond Men |
RE: Clue Game #45 - this game has more than 9 lives!
| | |
| Yeah, Spalmet, but sometimes a general clue is very specific to the movie if you know the movie. New York City would be an appropriate clue for something like "King Kong" in my opinion. So I don't think a seemingly vague clue should be ruled out. It's more important how much it relates to the movie. Father may be a good clue for "Father of the Bride"(well, minus the name in the title) while maybe too general of a clue for "Armageddon". And, "House" would be a great first clue for "The Shipping News", IMHO. Then again, I'm new to the game and have no idea how it's suppose to be played. Mainly, I figured if you guess right and it's you turn, you get to choose how specific or general you want your clues to be because you may feel more general clues may be "needed" for certain movies. I too had to look up Altoona (a city in PA): I'll guess "Fugitive Lovers" for this one. |
RE: Clue Game #45 - this game has more than 9 lives!
| | |
| I'm confused because didn't beth4652 guess Made For Each Other after the first clue of new marriage and wasn't that the right answer? I'm new here, so I'm not sure if I missed something. But I'll take a whirl. The clues are New York and Altoona. Dear Heart |
RE: Clue Game #45 - this game has more than 9 lives!
| | |
| Right on both counts Shamus. I didn't notice that Beth had already guessed "Made for Each Other" and apparently nobody else did either. "Dear Heart" it is for this round. You're up! |
RE: Clue Game #45 - this game has more than 9 lives!
| | |
| I humbly apologize, beth. I didn't see that and I also don't know how to fix it. Suggestions anyone??? |
RE: Clue Game #45 - this game has more than 9 lives!
| | |
| Yeah, even Beth didn't realize it :) As to the matter of general clues --- I think I'm on the same page as Carla. I, too, am pretty new. For instance, there are children in many movies but they are not necessarily the focus of the story. I used "child" as a clue for Monsters, Inc. because it was integral and a main focus of the movie. Likewise, I might use "house" as a clue for Poltergeist or "family" for Cheaper by the Dozen. I'd like to know what those of you who have been around longer think about it. |
RE: Clue Game #45 - this game has more than 9 lives!
| | |
| 1. Welcome to the forum, Shamus! 2. My suggestion would be that we set things right by allowing beth her rightful turn... unless, or course, she decides to give it up to our newbie, Shamus (sort of a goodwill gesture, heh heh) and we all spend 3.6 minutes in the corner for our collective faux-pas. 3. As mother of this game, I say we not spend another minute backandforthing on which words to use in our clues. To each his/her own. Don't worry, be happy. Can I have an AMEN??????? |
RE: Clue Game #45 - this game has more than 9 lives!
| | |
| AMEN AND AMEN !!!!! I've had way too many turns. Welcome, Shamus, you're up. |
RE: Clue Game #45 - this game has more than 9 lives!
| | |
| Amen also, and welcome Shamus, and do we want to address the issue of how many clues?? It seems to vary whenever the rules are spelled out for any newbies coming in - |
RE: Clue Game #45 - this game has more than 9 lives!
| | |
Alrighty then... 1. A total of 5 clues. Preferably single words, but more than one word is accepted. Ex.: deranged movie buffs! 2. The others get only one guess per clue. 3. Clues do not contain words from the title or the character's names. 4. If after 5 clues, no one has guessed it, you give the answer. You can then choose to either go again or give up your turn. 5. We sometimes cross over into foreign films. 6. Have fun, dagnabit! :D |

RE: Clue Game #45 - this game has more than 9 lives!

I'm thinking "Sister, My Sister" Only because I'm not sure you are familiar with the rules, Shamus. One rule of the game is that the clue cannot contain any words that are in the title of the film. Did you know that? If you do know it, then my guess is "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane" |

| I, for one, do not like waiting a whole day for the next clue. Can we have some kind of a time frame? |
RE: Clue Game #45 - this game has more than 9 lives!
| | |
| What sort of time frame do you have in mind, Minnie? I must admit, I checked back several times yesterday hoping for a new clue. On the other hand, not everyone is able to be playing games on the computer :) all the time. Perhaps if the clue giver is not able to be on several times a day, he/she could let us know that there will only be one clue a day? I think I could live with that --- at least I wouldn't be wasting time opening the thread a dozen times a day. |
RE: Clue Game #45 - this game has more than 9 lives!
| | |
| Sorry. I wasn't able to log on last night despite several attempts. I don't know what the glitch was. No correct answer yet. The first clue was "sisters". second clue: music |
