Yes, it is coming for Christmas and the previews I saw tonight looked promising. Wonder if they will make films of all 7 books of Narnia?

Oh cool. Where is it coming to, tv, movie, etc?
I really enjoyed the books.

Is this supposed to be a more adult version? I did buy the BBC DVD editions and the special affects were not very 'special'!
I have the books, they were a gift, but so far I haven't read them

I'm really hoping that this is as well done as LOTR! It's got to be a real challenge to pull off this fantasy stuff and not come off as ultra-cheesy.

RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

I can't wait for the movies to come out!

I checked out info on narnianet.com. They have info and behind the scenes stuff.

I believe they are making all 7 of the movies!!!

The film is being made by Disney for theatres. I saw the previews the other night and have to say that it looked wonderful. The movie is based on the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe but I was so caught up in the previews I didn't see if the film was called that or not. Yes, it looks like a HUGE improvement over the BBC/PBS productions.

ASLAN LIVES!!!

That's good to hear. Those stories have layers of meaning that appeal to all age readers and should make very good film adaptations, especially with modern special effect techniques.

RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

The trailer looks beautiful. It looks like it is being done in the same vain as LOTR. It seems like it is being done justice. I hope so.

It is interesting that all these films are coming out now. LoTR, now this. It is good to know that people still want quality stories out there!

 o
RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

I would bet any money that Disney will downplay those extra layers of meaning that C.S. Lewis intended. Still, Aslan looked great in the trailer and this will stir up interest in the books once again. It was only after reading these books that I discovered LOTR when I went in search of something else to read.

We saw the trailer for the movie yesterday and it looked good-I am excited!

I also wonder how much of the Christian-themed stuff Lewis intended will be included. Perhaps they will be understood through metaphors, like in the books. Look at Star Wars, The Matrix, Harry Potter, LOTR...all similar Christian themes and everyone is quite aware of their hidden meanings.

 o
RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

My DD teaches a high school Sunday School class which discusses Christian themes in movies. So far she has used Harry Potter, LOTR and several Disney movies. There are lots of books out there which serve as guides and the kids love it.

RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

I saw the preview during one of the recent showings of Harry Potter on broadcast tv. While I've never read the books, I gave the series to my young nephews and am delighted that the movie has provided incentive for them to read the books. They are so much less intimidating than the Potter tomes. This is a good thing. ;-)

RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

I am so glad Hollywood is producing movies based on great literature!! LotR was amazing, Narnia is sure to be, too- and even if it is taking a movie to get people to read, at least they're reading again! (Can you tell I'm an English major?) I can't wait for this one to come out.

 o
RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

Pat, you MUST read the books! They're fabulous. Lewis wrote the Chronicles of Narnia and a sci-fi adult triology with multiple layers of meaning. That you don't have to be a Christian to appreciate and enjoy, BTW, although Lewis is mostly known for his Christian writing.

I doubt Disney's ability to convey all the themes, but I'm going to see the movies anyway. Even on the most basic level, the books are fabulous. I loved them when I read them at 7 yrs old, before I understood any of the themes I picked up on in my numerous re-readings.

RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

The movie has arrived and I saw it last night. First off, don't go expecting Lord of the Rings. You will be disappointed. For the most part it is directed at children as were the original books. That being said I found the film visually stunning. It was not perfect and some effects looked a bit cheesy, but for the most part, it was impressive. I like Liam Neeson but did not feel that he was the right one to voice Aslan. Incidentally Disney did NOT make the film. Walden Media did. Disney distributed it. The film was a faithful adaptation of the book and was not watered down. It appears to be doing well at the box office. Anyone else see it yet?

RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

I saw it Friday night. I had similar issues. Don't get me wrong, it's wonderful. The effects were amazing, particularly with the animals, and some of the direction and cinematography was stunning. But at times it felt a bit cheesy and felt like a little after-school special or Wonderful World of Disney-esqe, which led me to wonder why they bothered to remake this for the big screen. It's very good, but I guess I expected more after seeing the trailers, which looked magical. But definitely see it, it's worth seeing on the big screen, and if you're a fan of the story or a kid, it will do the trick.

 o
RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

I'd never heard of these books until the last couple of years. Will probably go and see it though.

 o
RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

Read the first 3 books in the series before seeing the movie and was not disappointed. I would like to think they there are movies to be made from the books! Pat

 o
RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

We saw it on Sunday and LOVED it. I liked going into the movie knowing the story of "The Magicians Nephew" but don't think it made a difference to my husband who didn't know that story. We allowed ourselves to get swept up in the film and had agreat time. It brings out the kid in you, it was beautiful on the big screen!! Be sure to stay for some of the credits, there is a short scene with the proffesor and Lucy midway into them.

RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

DS and I just got back from watchingit and it was great I had to do a search to see wht part Jim Broadbent played. I couldn't recognize him in the movie.... Jim Broadbent .... Professor Kirke..... It was really a great production and no mention of religion as such, if anyone is worried, more a good against evil. The make up artists had a field day and really some of the characters would have given me nightmares if I had been a kid as well as the battle scenes. People were laughing and oohing out loud and a big round of applause afte it was over and every seat was filled.

RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

It is interesting that though the Narnia books were wrote by a devout Christian, fans seem to run the gamut from Christian to Atheist. I read one review which I thought was a fair assessment mention that the Christian symbols are there for those who want to see them but others should not stay away as they will not be hit over the head with Jesus.

 o
RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

Im interested i seeing it,maybe i will.

 o
RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

I saw this yesterday with my kids, my DD (who'd read the series twice) loved it, my DS (who is currently living and breathing Star Wars) was indifferent. I thought it was wonderfully done and perfectly faithful to the book. The effects were good, the scenery was lovely, the kids were excellent (Lucy, in particular, was just spot on). Was anyone else distracted by Tilda Swinton's makeup as Queen Jadis? All I could think of was the Borg Queen from the Star Trek Next Gen movie.

 o
RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

Sheri-me too! The "Queens" gowns and hair looked good-but that face-you are right I kept thinking back to her as the Borg Queen (which I loved BTW!)...............Pat

 o
RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

Sorry I missed the "Queen" what scene was she in

 o
RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

Minnie-we are talking about the Witch -who called herself Queen........Pat

 o
RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

The Borg Queen, of course! I saw it with young relatives. One nephew's Sunday School class has been reading the series this fall and he gladly explained the religious symbolism to me. :) I found interesting the use of pagan symbolism. Mr. Tumnus struck me as Pan, although that wasn't quite a pan-pipe. And Pan was one of the gods that died in the spring and came back to life three days later. His image also devolved into Satan. So I guess what I am saying is that I'm not sure I understand all the symbolism used by Lewis. Sure Mr. Tumnus started as the Witch's minion, but he was redeemed.

 o
RE: The Chronicles of Narnia

Saw this one twice. Great movie. I hope Mr. Lewis approved.
