| Correctomundo, shamus! This is a little gem of a movie. It has many of Québec's finest actors and comedians in it. Funny, touching story. One of the town gossips (phone tapper) is a well-known and loved stand-up comedienne (Clémence Desrochers) who made a very rare screen appearance and almost store the show. I highly recommend this comedy. Anyone seen it? |

| I should've got that one hands down! I was in "Carnival" - a musical based on "Lili" - in high school, and I've seen the movie a million times, it holds a special place in my heart. And I adore Leslie Caron in everything she does. For anyone intersted the show was on Broadway in 1961, and starred Jerry Orbach and Kaye Ballard. Here's a description from Amazon: The 1953 MGM motion picture Lili already seemed like a musical, even though the film contained only two songs, most notably "Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo." Perfect, then, to translate the film to the Broadway stage, which is exactly what Michael Stewart (Hello, Dolly) and composer-lyricist Bob Merrill (lyricist for Funny Girl and countless pop tunes, including "How Much Is That Doggie in the Window") did in 1961, winning the N.Y. Critics Circle Award for their efforts. Anna Marie Alberghetti made her Broadway debut in the Lili role (which had been Leslie Caron's film debut), with Jerry Orbach taking over for Mel Ferrer as the lame puppeteer, and Kaye Ballard in Zsa Zsa Gabor's role as the magician's mistress. Of course, the musical needed its own "Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo"-- and that came in the form of "Love Makes the World Go Round." Nothing else in this sweet score matches that classic, although Carnival does remain an old-fashioned charmer. |

| I adore Leslie Caron -- she is one of a kind and I've seen almost every film she did while young. I especially adore "Fanny" which I have. And she is still acting. I can't recall the name of the film I saw her in not so long ago, where she played an older French woman. She truly has aged, however; many dancers do not age so much as the regular folk.... |

| Leslie Caron played Lee Evans' mother in the excellent and unfairly underrated "Funny Bones". She is, unfortunately, the weakest actor in that film! |

| Anya, "Funny Bones" suffered due to the usual legendary Miramax mismarketing strategy: show the few wacky or goofy moments in an arthouse film that's much more serious and convince everyone that's what they'll be getting plenty of! They did the same thing, for example, with "Muriel's Wedding" which is anything but the usual cute and lighthearted Rom-Com fare. They also did that frequently for dramas which barely had any action content. Films like "Captives" which is quite a good little character-driven love story set in a prison but the trailer would have you believe that somehow it was a fast paced, psychological thriller! Nothing could be further from the truth. Films from overseas often don't fit into easily defined genres and unfortunately that was just how the Weinsteins would try to sell the ones for which they were the U.S. distributors. Personally, I thought "Le Divorce" was a mess. |
