Question about James Stewart

Can somebody please help me? Many years ago, I was watching a late-night movie. James Stewart played the young son in a large, eccentric family. He listens to a radio-show call-in contest. Amazingly, he knows the answer, calls the station, wins the contest and all sorts of prizes. The only thing is, the government wants the family to pay taxes on the prizes. Jimmy and the family go thru all kinds of comical difficulties. I remember one of the prizes was a ruby ring, and he sells it to raise money for the taxes. I have never seen the movie since (over 40 years). I can't find it on IMDB. Does anyone recognize this plot or am I imagining things?

I think I remember a movie like that with Dick Powell. I'll try and look up both of them.

"The Jackpot" from 1950. Barbara Hale and Tommy Rettig are in it.
