| Okay, somebody please take the baton and run!
In the meantime, virtual bonus points to the first person to correctly identify the origin of the quote above - and extra bonus points to anyone who can guess why I felt obliged to hold back on the last round. |

RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Hey, isn't that quote from Terry Gilliam's movie "The Brothers Grimm"? As for this round ........ A Fish Called Wanda! |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Gilliam's "Bros Grimm" indeed, Dynomutt. Enjoy your point! The movie posted in the last round by CloudyDays, which nobody got, was also a Gilliam. Odd, that? No. As for this round... no idea... so I'll say: 101 Dalmatians - do I have to specify which five? |

| | |
| I knew widow would do it...lol I love this movie There are three kinds of pipe. There's aluminum, which is garbage. There's bronze, which is pretty good, unless something goes wrong. And something always goes wrong. Then, there's copper, which is the only pipe I use. It costs money. It costs money because it saves money. MOONSTRUCK it is, go to it Minnie |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| I'm glad I guessed one for a change but please someone else go ahead. I'm not prepared!! |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| It's been some time since I've seen that film...who is the plumber? I remember Nick Cage being a baker. |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Moongirl, Vincent Gardenia is Cosmo Castorini the plumber, who is 'rich as Roosevelt' , complains his wife Rose. He refuses to pay for his daughter's wedding, until he relents to pressure from his family, in particular, the 'old man', his father, who walks the 5 dogs around New York, while howling at the moon, and proclaiming 'La bella luna!!!" lol After attending the opera, Ronnie: Loretta, I love you. Not like they told you love is, and I didn't know this either, but love don't make things nice - it ruins everything. It breaks your heart. It makes things a mess. We aren't here to make things perfect. The snowflakes are perfect. The stars are perfect. Not us. Not us! We are here to ruin ourselves and to break our hearts and love the wrong people and *die*. The storybooks are *bullsh/t*. Now I want you to come upstairs with me and *get* in my bed! Rose to Loretta: Do you love him Loretta? Loretta : Aw Mom, I love him awful! Rose: That's too bad You must understand, I'm married to an Italian lol. The movie's perfect, right down to the sugar cubes in the champagne. No discredit to her, but this movie would've tanked with the planned Sally Field in Loretta's role! |

RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!

Alrighty... Clue 1: fascist Italy Clue 2: weak influenced man Clue 3: Paris honeymoon Clue 4: uh... "termination" as in assasination Clue 5: gun on a train |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| I've watched a fair number of foreign films, but this one rings no bells at all! |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| And the answer is 'The Conformist', Bertolucci film 1970 with Jean-Louis Trintignant. Someone else can go... |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Ok, I'll bite. clue #1 -- terrorist attack |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!

RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Too obvious... how about Brazil? |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Crap. That's gotta be a record. The clues were : clue 1 -- terrorist attack clue 2 -- meddling mother clue 3 -- clerk clue 4 -- Byzantine bureaucracy Anyanka gets it. :-( You're up! (Next time I'll choose some obscure film from Outer Mongolia! Wait, do they even really HAVE a film industry there?) |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Dynomutt, don't cry... Brazil just happens to be one of my top top favourite films ever, and Gilliam is my favourite director, as illustrated by the title of this thread. I'm surprised CloudyDays didn't get it before me as she's another Gilliamite... Right. New round; extra clue: it's not a Gilliam. Clue # 1 - bunker |

RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!

RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Gilliam fans of the world, Unite!!! My guess: A Very Long Engagement |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!

RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Funny, that's what my husband said when I told him the clues. Still no cigar though. Clue # 1 - bunker Clue # 2 - culture clash Clue # 3 - post-war England Also, for those of you who are fluent in Finnish and German there is a completely accidental bonus cryptic clue in my previous set of negatives. Clear as mud? |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| anyanka -- Great minds think alike! (And you have great taste in men) ;-) As for the latest clue .......I'm bemused, befuddled, and bewildered! |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Except for "post war England", the film CUCKOO fits perfectly, as it was set in Finland, and has a culture clash between a Laplander woman and 2 soldiers, one Russian, the other German. |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Sorry if my mad blatherings have been misleading. There's nothing Finnish or German about the film itself; merely an accidental connection in the smug way I previously said no: non, nein, nyet and ei. Let me translate. The Finnish word for no (which I obtained from an online dictionary; I speak no Finnish whatsoever) is ei. In German, Ei means - egg. Clue 4, therefore: Clue # 1 - bunker Clue # 2 - culture clash Clue # 3 - post-war England Clue # 4 - eggs P.S. I am being deliberately and obnoxiously fiendish. |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Mein Gott! I'm confused as heck. Ok, how about ....... Empire of the Sun?! It all fits (I think) except for the post-war England clue! |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Non, nein, nyet and ei. "The Big Nose" a film about Hitler starring Jimmy Durante? (just kidding) |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Not a new clue, just some expansion... Clue # 1 - coal bunker Clue # 2 - culture clash with a brash but handsome Yank Clue # 3 - post-war Northern England Clue # 4 - eggs |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| I want to say either Charlotte Gray or The Land Girls. |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Hope & Glory?.......or Vera Drake?......... Can you tell I am really guessing & desparate LOL! Pat |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Lighten up, everyone! ;-) Clue # 1 - coal bunker Clue # 2 - culture clash with a brash but handsome Yank Clue # 3 - post-war Northern England Clue # 4 - eggs Clue # 5 - flight to freedom |

RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!

| I'm as clueless as a bunch of, uh, toad egg in a, er... coal bunker in post-war um...Northern England |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Oh no! Don't tell me you're all too old to watch something like this... just because it's animation... (oops, 'nother clue). Also, where is everybody? Are they on holiday? |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| animation... now I know I haven't seen it |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| OK at first i didn't have a clue but here it goes: chicken run? |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| No, no! It's not Chicken Run! It's, it's ..... Darn. It is Chicken Run....... I was thinking it may have been Valiant but that wasn't post-war England. |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| If it's Chicken Run then I have seen it but I didn't remember the plot!! |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| If it's animation, I have not seen it either. |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Well, if you haven't seen Chicken Run then let me recommend it. Very funny, exquisite animation, fabulous characters. The reason I chose it for this round is that I've been working on some film-themed banners for a competition. The competition was introduced with a talk by Aardman Animations' co-founder David Sproxton, which was riveting and informative, mainly referring to their most recent production, the Wallace & Gromit feature film Curse of the Wererabbit. Must get that one on DVD! Oh, and the other reason for choosing Chicken Run - I actually had Ginger & Rocky on my wedding cake last year...
Take it away, CloudyDays! |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Love the cake and belated Congratulations!! |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| Another way that shows that movies are a big part of our lives. ;-D Nick Park is so imaginative! Do I see candy conversation hearts on your cake anyanka...(were you married on Valentine's Day?) Be Mine For Sure ..True Love... all those great 2 worded love sonnets. Or did you get custom ones made!? :-D |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
Chicken Run, wot? Is that the one with the deliciously hilarious animated short at the end of it with animals with Brit accents chit-chatting about nuttin? HI-LA-RI-OUS, if only for that gem! |
RE: Clue Game 76 - Trust the toad!
| | |
| No messages on those hearts, Paula - they were tiny. It was neither a huge cake nor a huge wedding; BBQ in the garden, mid-August, all very relaxed, unconventional and informal. That's why we had Ginger & Rocky instead of the usual bride and groom; I don't do tradition. I actually wanted Beauty and the Beast, but they didn't have that in our local toyshop... CloudyDays, GET ON WITH IT! [Shouted in bad Scottish accent with John Cleese voice] |

HI-LA-RI-OUS, if only for that gem! ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, When PBS (I think it was ) first showed those zoo animals talking about living conditions I VCR'd them I thought they were so clever. Later I found out they were by that master Nick Park. |

| Am I the only loser to see this one LOL No, actually I was in a Joan Allen stint with Netflix for a while, and this one was a bit odd, but had some 'moments'. Off The Map A coming-of-age tale about an 11-year-old girl, Bo (Valentina d'Angelis), who spends the summer of 1974 watching her father (Sam Elliott) battle a bout of depression that proves to be crippling. Bo's parents (Joan Allen plays her mother) moved to New Mexico to escape the stresses of the big city (as part of a 1960s-'70s exodus that saw similar moves across the country) and now find they're being investigated by the government for tax evasion. Starring: Amy Brenneman, Valentina de Angelis ... Director: Campbell Scott Genre: Drama Format: Widescreen ... Language: English Subtitles: English Rated PG-13For nudity and thematic elements Off the Map Someone else can go now. |
