What's the Name Of This Film?

| The following is a friend's description and needs help in naming this movie.
The film is in black and white released in the mid-1940's or thereabouts. The films stars somebody like John Garfield or John Hodiak, but can't remember for sure. What I remember most vividly is a scene where a character actor is enthusiastically using a baton to conduct a phonograph record playing Brahm's First Symphony. What's the name of this movie? It has been bugging me for decades. |
