Movies about 'Great' races?

| I’m looking for movies about races or competitions in the vein of "Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines", "The Great Race", "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" and the "Cannonball Run" movies. Any suggestions? (They can also be drama movies, I just couldn’t think of any to mention here).
I need this for a workshop on teamwork and competition – the plan is to have the group divide into teams and each team chooses a movie and analyses it in relation to how things like teamwork, strategy, fair play, cheating and so on are shown.
The movies have to be about a race or competition between 2 or more teams (or individuals) for a prize, so no "Around the World in 80 Days", and neither am I looking for chase movies like "Convoy" where there isn’t really a prize ("Grand Theft Auto" is borderline and I probably wouldn’t use it).
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
(I also posted this in IMdB). |

| How about "The Gumball Rally" with Michael Sarrazin? Or Tom Cruise's "Days of Thunder"? |

| Hit me with a wet noodle, but I can't recall seeing any of your examples, so I'm not exactly sure what you're after. Here are a couple that are more drama than slapstick. How about: "Breaking Away" or "Chariots of Fire"? Did "Whale Rider" and " Triplettes of Belleville" have big races (I haven't seen them, but thought they might)? |

| "Those Daring Young Men in their Jaunty Jalopies" was a follow-up film to "Magnifient Men in their flying machines". "Bite the Bullet" is an excellent film about different people competing in a cross country horse race. It is a visually beautiful film and not well known. |

| Yes, Triplets did have a race. And with cheating, teamwork, and strategy. Major League also qualifies as a competition that involves teamwork, stategy, fair play, and cheating. I think Breaking Away is the best choice, however. |

| Teamwork makes me think of Oceans 11. They could not have pulled that off if any of them failed to do their part. Miracle also comes to mind. |

| While "The Whale Watcher" is a great film, I don't remember that much, if any, racing in it. And while "Days of Thunder" is about racing, it is about oval track auto racing. And from Netla's suggested films, films about cross-country racing seems to be what is wanted. Therefore, I would suggest "Scavenger Hunt." Not necessarily a good film, but you can't go wrong with a film that stars Richard Benjamin, James Coco, Scatman Crothers, Ruth Gordon, Cloris Leachman, Cleavon Little, Roddy McDowall, Robert Morley, Richard Mulligan, Tony Randall, Dirk Benedict, Willie Aames, Stephen Furst, Richard Masur, Meat Loaf, Pat McCormick, Vincent Price, Avery Schreiber, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Liz Torres, and Carol Wayne. And for those that have lived in San Diego, California, as I have, it is nice to try to guess, exactly where in the city, the film was made. And for those who enjoyed "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World," they might like to watch "Rat Race" w/ Seth Green, Whoopi Goldberg, Jon Lovitz, Kathy Najmy, Rowan Atkinson, John Cleese, Dave Thomas, Paul Rodriguez, Dean Cain, Wayne Knight, and Cuba Gooding, jr. and an uncredited appearance by Kathy Bates. If only to see, how much better it was done 38 years earlier. |
