Movies to come: Anything interesting?

Have you spotted anything worth mentioning in movies to come?
I just watched a riveting trailer of BROTHERS (Jake Gyllenhall, Natalie Portman, Tobey Maguire) and man, this one's sure to be good. Three of my favorite actors to boot. Maguire plays a MIA soldier who miraculously returns, while Portman plays his wife and G. plays his brother. Can't wait to see this one!
Another up-and-coming one is PAPER MAN, with Jeff Daniels, Robert Downey Jr. and Ryan Reynolds (playing an imaginary superhero). Promising cast = promising movie? Betcha ya-huh! |

There is one coming to the art houses in our cities that I really want to see: "Young Victoria". It's about the romantic marriage of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and the leading star is the young actress who starred in "Devil Wears Prada." (Can't recall her name, just now).

Right-o, Emily Blunt, I believe.

Yep, that's the one. And Ruppert what's his name plays Prince Albert. Wonder if he will have a German accent.... Queen Victoria married her cousin, by the way and produced 9 offspring. On the book thread, someone mentioned that a film of Cormac McCarthy's "The Road" will be coming out. I sure hope Hollywood does not ruin this one. I think Vigo Mortensen is in it. We don't see enough of him, IMHO.

Ruppert Everett? Couldn't agree w/you more about VMortensen. Wonderful actor, have loved him in everything he's done. Not sure about the critiques re:The Road, have heard(read) lukewarm reviews... But that ain't gonna discourage this fan from seeing it lol Besides, I really go for that type of storyline.

The film I wanted to see this Autumn was Creation about the work of Charles Darwin (played by Paul Bettany) but, as we live in the backwoods it never arrived at our very small local cinema. Although it opened the Toronto film festival I read that it is not to be shown in the US because the majority of the population don't believe in Evolution and the company can't find a distributer willing to take it on.;-( Jane Campion's new film Bright Star about the young poet John Keats with Ben Whishaw and Abbie Cornish has good write-ups; maybe that will make it out here.

I can sympathise, veer, about being "far from the madding crowd"... Most of the movies that hit my city are dubbed or subtitled in French, and foreign movies of the year are even rarer... ;( I'll keep a lookout for Bright Star, luuuv Campion!
Gotta mention...
| | |
Oooohhh, Charlize Theron has signed on to play Dagny Taggart in Atlas Shrugged, scheduled for 2011... Another one I'm looking forward to!

"Bright Star" has already played at the art houses in my area. I missed it, so will have to rent it. As for "Creation", I feel sure it will show up on US television, which has such a wide choices of stations with various and diverse agendas....

I am planning to visit my DVD hire to-morrow, I am hoping for Cold Comfort Farm and The Reader. I have read both books and should find them interesting.

Well we were given a gift certificate so we saw Avatar. The theme, moral- is nothing new. Was entertaining with the special way it was made, but not a memorable event. I think James Cameron may get a special effects Oscar but that's about it. Kinda like Dances with Wolves meets Terminator. Btw, I'm halfway through McCarthy's enthralling 'The Road' and wondering about the film version of it. I know movie versions rarely match the expectations.

Saw 2 previews yesterday that look interesting: a remake of Robin Hood is coming, starring Russell Crowe, directed by the maker of "Gladiator", I think. Also, a comedy on the way-- partly set in the UK-- "Leap Year."
RE: Movies to come: Anything interesting?

Ridley Scott...yes , I'm hoping it's good too W.,, like Gladiator, one of my favorites. Alice in Wonderland with Depp via Burton, is one I'm curious to see how it's received. Did any of you see The Road yet? C?
