Remake of War Of The Worlds

| Did anyone else besides me see this and thought it was as awful as I did? Why, oh why, they had to change the story line is beyond me. They may as well have titled it "Vampire aliens from space" of some such nonsense. Some scenes were like the original, but the majority weren't. Can't understand why they had to give TC a family. I could go on and on, but don't want to make this a whole saga.
Another case of a bad remake of a classic film. |

| Do you mean the 1953 Gene Barry/Anne Robinson version as the 'original'? That one too deviates from the original H. G. Welles story, where it was in victorian England. It was told from a narrative viewpoint of a married Englishman. He shuttled his wife away to safety, and spent a good deal of time in a basement with a man who was loosing his mind during the invasion. At least Spielberg kept to the tri-pod design of the invaders, and the red 'weed', whereas the 1953 American version had to resort to a different spaceship design, due to cost. It was a brilliant design, using the cobra-type head out of the 'manta ray' ship. Spielberg liked the '53 version, did you see Gene and Ann at the end of the Cruise version? |

| Sorry to disagree. Other than the hokey ending, I thought WOTW was the best "effects" movie of the year. My heart was pumping the whole time. While I also like the '50's version, this was every bit as good. |

| Dh watched it, or at least tried to, the other night. Kept falling asleep. Finally saw it the next day. He said it was pretty bad and he'll watch just about anything no matter how big a piece of crap it is. |

| The SPFX were good and Tom was okay, but I got tired of Dakota Fanning screeeeeeeaming nonstop. And I thought the ending was lame. Nobody figured out that our common bacteria was the cause of the aliens' demise. If it weren't for either having seen the original film (/read the book) OR paying attention to Morgan Freeman's narration, it would have made no sense at all..... The aliens just stomped around until.. they stopped.. meh. |
