As a teen of the 80s I am an expert myself on this subject. However there is one song that has got me stumped for years now. I have no idea the name of it or who sings it. Part of the problem is that the song has NO LYRICS to it. It's very Art of Noise-like but it's not that band. The song has a lot produced vocals but there are no real words. The "words" go: "Umbaba, umbaba, umbaba, umba" and those are sung by what sounds like a man's low voice. He blares out a lot of "ya-ta-ta-ta-ta" and "blam, blam, bleh, bleh" with his voice. It contains a lot of synthsized beats that start off slow and build up to a very danceable groove. It might even be classified as "house" music. I want to say it came out maybe late 80s/early 90s but I'm not sure.
Does anyone know this song? Any insight is appreciated!
JAG - thank you for the validation! At least you know the song I'm talking about! It is driving me crazy and I bet it will drive you crazy now, too.
After some research online I did manage to discover a song called "Umbaba" by a group called Tragic Error (which is actually a DJ named Patrick de Morey from Belgium) It seems this "Umbaba" song came out about 1991, so the time-frame could be right, and I've also seen it classified as house or trance or dance, so that could be right. Unfortunately there is no way to hear a sample of it. Does this ring a bell?
Thanks guys, but I found it. What a relief! I sang the song to a colleague who remembered that it was featured in the tour de force 80s movie, "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo." Cross-referencing I discovered that she was right - it is called "Trommeltanz (Din Daa Daa) by George Kranz.
