Well i haven't 'discovered' them but you know what i mean. The first band is called 'The Gypsy Punks',i think they are based in the east, in New York. They are originally from Slovakia (i think). As good as The Pogues i'd say, give them a listen. The other band is probably known to you but i've only just heard them yesterday.'The Detroit Cobras',good old rock and roll.If you haven't heard them give them a listen.
Thumbs up to "The Detroit Cobras"! There's a little music shop here in London, Ontario and I was warned before I went there that the proprietor can be a bit opinionated about his patrons' musical choices and more than a little bit insulting if he doesn't care for what you have selected. When I presented him with "The Detroit Cobras" he went on and on about how good they are and how I was buying their best release yet! High praise from a self-professed audiophile, indeed!
About a year ago, I heard a track from an indie band calling themselves "Caledonia" and I had never heard anything like them in my life. Sort of like when I heard Rufus Wainwright for the first time! O.K. these guys are perhaps a bit more mainstream, but they blended folk and rock and a lot of weirdness to the one track I heard called "Houses". Worth a listen if you can find it!
