I want to marry Rory Block

Of all the complaints I have about my community, the public library is not one of them. We have an exceptional library with a first rate CD and DVD collections. I have been feeling in a rut lately and nothing delivers me out of one of these better than new music. I picked up a couple of CDs out of the folk and blues section at the library. One was Eva Cassidy. Amazing voice. I was sad to learn that she has passed away. The other CD was Rory Block's latest. I have heard of Rory, probably when I used to subscribe to Dirty Linen magazine. Anyways I see her CD and she is on the cover and looks stunning. I later read that she is 55 years old. I still do not believe this. She looks 35. She is also an incredible blues guitarist. Her vocals are not too shabby either. This may come as no surprise to many of you but it was a new discovery for me. I am still amazed that there is this good of music out there that is unknown to most people.

RE: I want to marry Rory Block

Rory Block is one of those artists that dosen't get near the
recognition she deserves, and it dosen't help that she's an
acoustic player. Music lovers are cheated when they don't
get a chance to hear artists like her along with Marcia Ball, Cathy Lemons and Eva Cassidy. The attention on even
the local college stations around here (on the blues
programming) goes to the guitar slingers like Debbie Davies,
Deborah Coleman and Sue Foley (who I really like) or the
shouters like Koko Taylor.

The thing to do is hit the libraries or used cd shops and
start sampling, or read reviews in the specialty magazines
like Blues Revue or Living Blues and take a chance. One I
took a chance on and love is Cathy Lemons (out of the Bay
Area)and her disc "Dark Road". Maybe you've seen Joss
Stone on Austin City Limits doing "Dirty Man". You have to
hear it by Ms. Lemons along with "Dark Road". Incredible.
