Mike Smith, the lead singer of The Dave Clark Five, died Thursday outside London, less than two weeks before the band is to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was 64.
Mike Smith was a talented guy, and still making music until his tragic accident a few years ago. Sorry to hear he's gone.
At least he knew they would be in the R&R Hall of Fame -- he wouldn't have been well enough to attend the ceremony anyway. I'm glad he got to go home for awhile before he passed away.
I remember lunchtime debates at my school over which band was the best, The Dave Clark 5, The Beatles or The Rolling Stones. That would have been in '63/'64.
RE: Mike Smith, Lead Singer of Dave Clark 5, Passes Away
I remember seeing afew interviews with clark and smith, they said thy tried to keep up with the beatles in releasing hit 45s,but admitted that they quickly knew i was a futile attempt, because lennon and mccartney were so prolific..
