| Now that we are done with the first round of the real part of this season's competition, who do you like?
Who were you surprised by?
Who were you disappointed by?
Who do you think could win the whole thing?
Of the guys, I liked Chris Daughtry a lot. I was surprised by how good Bucky Covington was. I wasn't disappointed by any of them.
Of the girls, I liked Mandisa. I was surprised by Becky O'Donohue and Ayla Brown. I was disappointed by Stevie Scott.
Ace Young and Paris Bennett seem to be the judge's favorites. |

I've only seen two or three complete episodes of this program. I would tune in occasionally only to see really good performers get bumped. I couldn't stand anymore. And no one deserves to be treated the way some of them are, even if it makes for "good television". Printed in this weeks TV GUIDE: "Why can't you say "you're not a very good singer" and not necessarily take their soul, put it in a blender (and) drink it in front of them?" - Jon Stewart, talking to Randy Jackson about Simon Cowell, on The Daily Show. |

| I heard it at work the last two nights, but didn't actually see any of the performers. It seems that people always make the mistake of songs by great vocalists like Aretha Franklin (it's all downhill when someone tries to cover Aretha, IMO). So I was surprised to hear that this girl was about to cover "Because The Night" and I thought "Hmmm....good song selection and Patti doesn't have the greatest voice, so this chick could really do something with this song." But...she didn't. |

| We're enjoying it so far. I don't know the names of all of the women, but there was only one I really didn't like, and that was because she seemed mean-spirited. There's a young man who does a rat pack shtick that I don't care for and another man who sang Copacabana that I found painful to listen to. Other than those three I enjoyed the singing and look forward to more. Taylor (grey hair) is such a character and I really like his style. Ace has what I call the drool factor. Those may be my early favorites. I try to ignore what the judges say, especially Simon. |

I not sure why, but I was under the impression the songs were picked for, and not by, the competitors. There are artists that you should never mess with, and Aretha is certainly at the top of the list. |

| The songs in this round are picked by the singers. Later on the singers have to pick a song from a theme based list. Think soul, or 60's, or show tunes, as the season progresses. Well the "Copacabana" kid is gone. So is the girl who sang "Because the Night" So are Patrick Hall and Stevie Scott. |

| That spoiled-bratty woman is still on. Hmph. I'm looking forward to next week anyway. It's fun to watch the performances and root for our favorites. I hope they will eventually let the ones who also play instruments or write their own songs show what they can do. I have only sung a couple of times on stage when I took a vocal class, and I was petrified. How these young people can be brave enough to sing live on TV, and face an immediate public critique, is beyond me. |

| I LOVE AI!! I'm not always good w/the names though, I just know who sounds good to me and who doesn't. My absolute favorite of all is by far, Taylor!!!!! When he was last announced that he made it, and he had walked into that room playing the harmonica, I was dying. He doesn't have the hot factor like Ace of course, but there is just something about him. I also enjoyed Chris's performance of "Wanted Dead of Alive". As for the gals, I think "Lisa" was one of the ones I loved. Petaloid, the mean-spirited one might have been Brenna.....she mentioned about the claws coming out. I thought that her performance was good, but now I've been doubting myself. I thought I knew good singing when I heard it, but none of the judges seemed to like her. |

| Say goodbye to boys Sway Penala and David Radford. Say goodbye to girls Heather Cox and (thank you) Brenna Gethers. This week Chris Daughtry of the boys shone the best. Of the girls Mandisa was the best. |

| I agree with you, jd -- after this week's performances Chris and Mandisa are the ones to beat. Wonderfully talented. There are many good competitors, though, so we'll see next week if someone else gives them a run for their money. Taylor still makes me smile from ear to ear and Paris has an expressive voice that reaches me on an emotional level. (Did I mention that Ace is extremely cute?) Sooooo glad that obnoxious Brenna was voted off. Her background story shows that her "__ you" attitude may have served her well during tough times in her past, but her behavior is very inappropriate in the context of a singing competition. American Idol is not only about talent, which I think she has, but about likeability. |
And the winner was...

| Funny, I didn't even mention Taylor or Katharine back in February, did I? Oh, well. Chris should have won. Bill |

| I was flipping back and forth between AI and Lost just to see who won. Interesting someone from Alabama was in the final two for the third time. WHAT was up with Clay Aiken?? I don't particularly care for him, but his appearance was just bizarre. Pasty faced with dark Beatlesque hair? Yikes! |

Blackcat, we taped Lost and watched Idol. It was interesting to see the live show and the celebrities that did duets, some good, some not so good, but still interesting. Host Ryan S. says that he was panicking because Prince didn't show up until a couple of minutes before his performance. He left within five minutes after. Fun to see him. Yes, I was thinking Clay had a Beatles hairdo. If I close my eyes when I listen to his voice I really like his singing. I felt a bit worried about Meat Loaf -- he didn't look well or sound well. I would have preferred that Chris win, of course, because I'm more of a rock aficionado. Of the final two, Taylor has a strong, passionate vocal style plus he writes songs and plays guitar & harmonica. Not a bad choice in my opinion. DH was disappointed because he wanted the beauty to win. |
