INXS Reality rock stars

Just happened to fall on this new program on tv last night. INXS is looking for a new lead singer so they decide to go the reality route by auditioning male/female prospects.

I admit I watch the American and Canadian Idol shows because I really enjoy discovering new talent. What I find refreshing with the INXS experience is that we're talking pure ROCK, FOR A CHANGE! Fifteen hopefuls performed for the INXS band last night and one was eliminated (inferior vocals). There's alot of incredible talent in this group. Some sing better than others; some have the 'it' factor, some don't.

Anyone else watch it?

I didn't see it because my television programming consists mainly of The Wiggles, the news and more Wiggles. LOL but it sounds like an interesting concept. although no one can replace Michael Hutchence. I thought they had broken up.

I did hear that Hutchence's death was rather suspcious and some believe he was murdered. Anyone else hear that?

RE: INXS Reality rock stars

I saw the INXS show last night. It was kind of entertaining.

However, It is an interesting idea. Replace your dead lead singer with one of 15 hopefuls. Resurrect your band's career so that if the singer doesn't work out you can fire him/her and get somebody else.

Hubby watched it and said most were really good and that he would actually pay to see 5 of the 15 performers.

I caught the end of the show and it looked interesting. It certainly is a strange way to replace a lead singer but hey, it's a reality-show world nowadays.

I'd like to know whose idea this was... the band's or some reality-tv producer. I mean it doesn't sound like INXS to pimp themselves like this, though it's great exposure for them to old and new fans alike. The total minutes of all reality tv I've watched is literally less than 30 but I may have to check this one out.

Phyllis- I believe INXS *did* break up, as they did not want the group to continue on without Michael. Oh and btw... Hutchence did hang himself. Rumors mentioned auto-erotic activity but he was pretty distraught over issues in his personal relationships as well as his band's dwindling popularity.

RE: INXS Reality rock stars

Well last night's show had some truly amazing performances, and the next show has the contestants singing INXS songs... for the INXS judges. Can u imagine the stress ?!

RE: INXS Reality rock stars

I watched it last night and agree with you Clairabelle -- there were some excellent performances. I don't know how to visualize these folks as lead singers for INXS but if they sing the band's songs tonight that should help.

Maybe the band needs a new name, though, since they'll have a different lead singer. IN2XS?

RE: INXS Reality rock stars

Well that was 30 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

Last night it seemed everyone was trying too hard to be a "Rock Star" and tonight it seemed the three didn't try hard enough.

INXS should just hire that blonde from Canada and send everyone else home.

And just to add something positive in this post... Brooke Burke is hot! : D

 o
RE: INXS Reality rock stars

So is it just a bunch of people trying to sound/look/act like Hutchence? I don't get it. Why don't they just hook up with some musical friend/person and be done with it? LOL

(Although look at what happened to Van Halen when they tried to hire a replacement for Sammy Hagar....ack!)

RE: INXS Reality rock stars

Who is Brooke Burke? She is a lovely lass and everyone seems to recognize her from somewhere, but I don't.

Phyllis, it doesn't look to me like they are trying to copy Hutchence, just doing their thing.

People who don't like talent shows wouldn't like this. Also, it bothers me that the audience is obviously prepped so that they cheer, wave their arms in unison, etc., like they do on game shows. And they stand all the cuties in front at the edge of the stage. It's like a fake, made-up concert.

In spite of all that, many of the contenders have major talent.

I enjoyed the show I watched Tuesday when they all took turns singing, and I like the back-up band. I found last night tedious, when they decided on who to eliminate.

It looks like CBS will be showing this again tonight. I will try to stay awake to see if they show the performances that I missed.

 o
RE: INXS Reality rock stars

Okay, they are singing different songs tonight. I look forward to seeing Deanna ("that blonde from Canada") and most of the others.

Deanna:

RE: INXS Reality rock stars

Hmmm ... we saw Deanna "captioned" as being Canadian, and so was Susie. Looks like she's a Valley Girl after all. I like Jordis too, and it's fun to see Mig do his Iggy/Mick thing.

RE: INXS Reality rock stars

Since the show was mentioned here, I've been watching, and I'm pretty conflicted about it. INXS is one of my favorites, and no one will ever be able to replace Michael Hutchence. Plus, this whole reality tv thing has me bothered because it seems a bit cheap coming from a band I've respected for so long.

That being said, some of the contestants are talented. At this point, I'm rooting for Mig. JD (?) was showing promise, but he's proving to be a bit flaky.

And forget Brooke Burke, I want a Jon Farriss sandwich! LOL

RE: INXS Reality rock stars

We watched again the last two nights. When I mentioned Mig before I had gotten the names mixed up (I meant the skinny, shirtless boy who got voted off). Yes, I like Mig a lot too, especially as lead for INXS. JD is a good performer but has some kind of "issues."

Ty and Marty sang very well Tuesday night and I was glad they had Marty encore Nirvana's "Lithium" last night -- I really think he did it justice.

Several of the others sang their songs off-key, which they hadn't before. It made me wonder if there was a problem with the sound or that they couldn't hear themselves sing that night. Brandon didn't seem to know the tune to "Tempted..." (Squeeze), which annoyed me since it's a favorite of mine.

In spite of the kitchiness we are enjoying the talent of several of the singers, and the rock songs that are selected are, for the most part, good ones.

RE: INXS Reality rock stars

Is anyone still watching this? Next week is the finale, and tonight it goes down to 3 so either JD, Suzie, Mig, or Marty goes home.

My choices for the winner are JD or Mig. Suzie is a great singer, but she lacks an edge. And I don't think she can bring out the darker side of INXS songs. Marty is too edgy. I think fans voting for him are looking for a new Kurt Cobain, and he does some weird things with his hands. He's very talented, but he creeps me out! Plus, I think he's a little too controlling, and I didn't like his comment about everything being about singles these days.

As to the winner, JD would be great, I think, as long as he's being his real self now. Mig looks the part and is very talented, but I think he needs a bit of toughening up. I'd buy an INXS record with either as lead singer, but probably wouldn't with Suzie, and definately not with Marty.

RE: INXS Reality rock stars

I'm still watching, and I agree with you in some respects, blackcat. Marty is a little creepy sometimes. But JD is creepy all the time. Way too cocky, way too schmaltzy and can't keep his hands out of his crotch. I like Mig a lot, but I think Suzie is a lot better. Damn, she really knocked it out of the park with Bohemian Rhapsody! BTW, you can see all the performances at INXS.com if you're not up to date and are interested.

RE: INXS Reality rock stars

We're still watching and enjoying the competition. I thought everyone performed well this week.

JD was excellent as far as skills and showmanship and they may well choose him. He tries to say all the right things to them, but I think his obvious personality problems would eventually cause problems.

From the interview it sounds like Marty has his own distinct vision and would want to call the shots. I can't see the band going along with that, so he may be happier recording on his own.

INXS seem to like Suzie a lot, and she has been singing very well lately.

Mig has great talent and personality, but he may be too "nice" for that band.

I get the feeling that the band members are looking for sex appeal and some wildness. I think they'll choose JD or possibly Suzie, for that reason.

Personally, I like Marty the best, even the scary conductor gestures and screaming. I like Mig second best and think his career will go well either way (shirt on or off).

 o
RE: INXS Reality rock stars

I was sorry to see Suzie go tonight. But I thought Mig really pulled off the first INXS song he's performed. Hard to see which way they'll go, but I think I'm in it for Mig. Regardless, I'm sure the last 6 contestants have contracts waiting in the wings and will all do fine.

 o
RE: INXS Reality rock stars

I was really impressed with the way Mig performed the INXS song, too. He did the best job out of all 3, and I was really worried that he'd blow it, especially since he looked so nervous. I hope the finale is singing all INXS songs.

I'm a little concerned that Marty seems to be the fan favorite, but I think the band might decide he might not be such a team player.

RE: INXS Reality rock stars

I hear the "new" INXS will perform on the Ellen show tomorrow.
