Locked grooves?

My British Sargeant Pepper LP has the first locked groove I remember hearing, which repeats "... never could be any other way..." ad infinitum at the end of the second side. (I am told the US version is missing this feature.)

Below is a link to more information about locked grooves aka "lockgrooves":

Here is a link that might be useful: locked grooves

Yeah, it was never issued here until the little blurb was included on a rarities lp in the 70s.The cd that was issued in the states when cds first came out has it,so now the u.s. listeners are quite famiiar with it.I heard that if you play it backwards it has a rather shocking message,of course my sensitive ears have not been exposed to this yet.

Thanks Petaloid - in all those years of listening I never did figure out what it actually said (backwards OR forwards)!

The only other locked groove I remember vaguely was on my brother's Heaven 17 album, 'Penthouse and Pavement', and actually repeated the last line of the song. It took us a fair while to realise that it wasn't ever going to pick up.

Anybody remember what the song & line were?

doh!

Should have read you linked site before posting! It mentions that track; the line is 'for a very long time'. I did remember that it was very appropriate!

Oh, is that what those are called! I remember my old copy of "The Who Sell Out" had a locked groove at the end of the second side - no lyrics, just three notes of what might be a trumpet, and a click.

Locked grooves are one thing, two concentric grooves are a hoot too. I was first exposed to it with side 2 of Monty Python's "Matching Tie & Handkerchief" LP. You put the stylus down on the beginning of the side and you start hearing a routine. Pick the stylus up, put it down at the beginning of the record again and you have a 50-50 chance of hearing something completely different. The original pressings made no mention of this feature.

Its pretty cool stuff, altough before this thread was started i must confess i had never heard of the prase locked grooves,or two concentric grooves for that matter.I had heard the little locked groove on sargent peppers, but did not know what to call this type of addition.
