Just got this very sad news
He gave Elton and Rod Stewart their first real push up the ladder
John Baldry R.I.P

JOHN WILLIAM BALDRY - 1941 to 2005 - Long John Baldry passed away at the Vancouver General Hospital, July 21 at 10:30 pm after fighting a severe chest infection for the passed 4 months. He was surrounded by friends and loved ones and is now at peace. John Baldry will be remembered by his music and the love he generously gave to all those who came in contact with him. Our world is a lesser place without him, for John was a person that enhanced this world with his enormous presence and talent. John Baldry walks with God. - Frank Garcia

Frank Garcia must be a bigger fan than I. Sure, I love the whole idea of rock/blues - but let's be serious, Long John was a lovable loon as far as real rock/blue sgoes. Again, don't get me wrong, I bought Steampacket re-issues and I really enjoy his 'Still Ain't Easy' album from the early 90's. Damn shame when anybody dies, and he was more than just anybody. Had some sort of association with children's books or something too. I just don't revere him as a blues "guy" as much as others.

I always enjoy "Don't try to Lay no Boogie Woogie on the King of Rock n' Roll". when I hear it on the radio.

He certainly had many friends in the music industry,he was very well respected.Im not familiar with much of his work, but i know he helped several artists break into the business.I have a photo of him that appeared in a rock book i bought in the mid 70s,but i had not seen or heard much about him in many years.
