Music on TV

I thought others might not know that Elvis Costello hosts a music show on the Sundance channel. It's called "Spectacle," and I learned of it only recently. As I type, James Taylor is alternately discussing his life and singing some lovely songs.

One show last month had Kris Kristofferson, Roseanne Cash and Norah Jones, discussing their roots and doing a "guitar pull" where they took turns trying to out-play each other. I enjoyed that.

There was another episode I found interesting, with Lou Reed and Julian Schnabel, and one with Bill Clinton talking music and playing the saxophone.

Any other reviews or recommendations of music programs on TV?

RE: Music on TV

A couple of weeks ago, his guest was Smokey Robinson. Wow! He is one cool dude! Had many memories to share (like his first encounter with the musical genius of Ray Charles) and answered such awesome questions from host EC like "How do you feel when someone else makes a hit with a song that you wrote but which was not a success for you?", to which he replied, like a wise old Master, that "it's all good, it's wonderful when you see someone trippin on a song you wrote 40 years ago! I'm very honoured to be remembered that way."

I just think this show is great; great format. We gain insight regarding the views of many illustrious artists, with a live show to boot! How cool is that? A very intimate setting, excellent hosting by EC -- basically a fan of music just like the rest of us. His generosity and genuineness comes through and it's very refreshing.

Can't wait for the next installment!

Live from Abbey Road is also very good. Great mix of newer artists as well as the tried and true.

Local PBS (WNYC) has a show called New York Noise that I enjoy very much.

I'll have to catch the next installment of the Elvis Costello show you mention. I've seen Jools Holland do a show which was very good as well, Later With Jools Holland.
