Artists actually worth listening to

I can't stand it anymore. There is too much garbage being
produced and played and foisted on the public. Without
apologizing or being sensitive to the tastes of others,
I am going to list artists that in my opinion, and I have
no problem saying that my opinion counts, deserve to be
played on the radio and supported by their record companies
and listened to by people that actually like music and
not trends or idiocy. Blast me if you will, I will not
respond, I will take my lumps.

He's played with the Allman's a bit, thanks to his uncle Butch Trucks. He was on ABC's Sunday morning show a couple of weeks back. He's really good without being a showboat. I should say I don't know why I felt I'd take some hits on my list, just sensitive I guess. I feel that music lovers should not just buy the latest thing, listen to what's gone before. I talk to people and they think blues is SRV, Clapton and B.B. King, jazz is Steely Dan, George Benson and Kenny G., and country is Shania, Keith Urban and Toby Keith. I personally know two of the artists on my list and they aren't anywhere near as well known as they should be. One of them is from Chicago and local radio pretty much ignores him. Some would rather hear Christina Aguilera sing "At Last" then the incredible version by Etta James.Makes me shake my head. |

I started listening to Phil Ochs when I was a teen in the sixties. I was fascinated with his music, and still am. I can't get enough. He had something to say, and he was determined to get it out. I think he had a great way with a lyric. He got slammed continually for his singing and guitar playing ability, which I didn't understand. He sounded fine to me and I was more interested in his messages than his chord strumming. There are so many others that could be added to that list, so much talent that's not appreciated. I never used to lend my cd's out but I'm beginning to now so people can become a bit more familiar with what's available. One thing I got a kick out of, I lent a double live cd to a person who raved about it, so I offered to burn a copy for him. He refused my offer and went out and bought the disc. |
