Modern Drummer magazine awarded Rush's Neil Peart their Drummer of the Year award so many times they retired him from further competition.

Spot on ramblingjack! I'd also mention Louie Belson and Eddie Shaughnessey from the old Tonight Show band. Big band drummers have got it together. As far as rock drummers go you have to think of Kenny Aronoff, possibly Anton Figg, and Ginger Baker cooked on "Fresh Cream". Blues? Sam Lay is the man.

Rush is one great band!!

Here is a link that might be useful: Tom Sawyer

Byron Glatz of Hepcat Dilemma. Baddest drummer in the land of Pittsburgh Pa. You said in the land, you didn't say which land! lol.

Ginger baker, john bonham, ringo starr, charlie watts, keith moon, mick fleetwood, joey kramer, and ian piace were always my favorite rock drummers. But lets face it the great jazz drummers were on a higher level..belson and rich were mentioned. How about gene krupa? He was spectacular! The rock drummers could sound very good, but the jazz guys were so flashy and fancy.Of course guys like baker and watts have played in jazz lineups.

Nothin' against Krupa Manny, I knew someone would mention him. I picked up appreciation for the big band guys from the Tonight show. Watching & listening to these guys wail on the tom-toms with the high-hat keeping a steady beat is a very cool thing. When I was a wee kid guys like Mel Taylor of The Ventures and Sandy Nelson were considered pretty good drummers. I think Nelson patterned himself after Krupa. I also dig listening to Jaimoe & Butch Trucks with the Allman's.

I hate to say it, but I never notice the drummer in a band unless he is doing a really bad job.

Cozy Powell, Ian Paice, Carl Palmer, Roger Earl, Frank Beard, Nick Mason, Brent Eccles.....and many more.

There's no one and only, but many greats.

Cool drum tune: Topsy - Part 2 by Cozy Cole

Hey...how do you know if a drummer is at your door?

The knocking keeps getting faster and he doesn't know when to come in.

Amen Alisonn. My main focus is on the keyboard player.
